Why The Mountain School at Winhall?

The Mountain School at Winhall, nestled in the southern Green Mountains of Vermont, believes in educating the whole child through the lense of Vermont as our classroom. Students at MSW take their learning outside of the classroom spending time each day learning in our Forest Classroom, outdoor educational spaces, greenhouse, and through local experts. As a fully accredited independent school, educating students in grades K-6 we believe in creating a strong and supportive learning environment which encourages creativity and problem solving.

MSWs intentionally small community offers students an individualized education and social-emotional skill development. Students foster stewardship and good citizenship through multi-age opportunities throughout the school.

Our cell phone–free campus creates belonging and promotes relationship development in real life. At this developmental age we find that relationships develop best without the constant distraction of a screen in their hands, we ask all students to leave these devices as well as gaming devices at home. Fundamentally, we use our technology as a learning tool. We believe kids should be able to experience the joy of being children, exploring the outdoors, and learn to develop deep connections with their peers.

The Mountain School at Winhall offers open rolling admissions. We are always welcoming new families to join our school community. Please contact us to schedule a visit, as coming in person is the best way to experience MSW.

“We could not be happier with our child’s experience at The Mountain School. Over the last four years, we have watched our child develop into a strong student and, importantly, a kind and generous young man. We are so grateful to the faculty and staff for providing our son with an opportunity to thrive in so many ways, in and out of school.” –Current Parent.
