Application Process

Thank you for your interest in The Mountain School at Winhall. We offer year round rolling admissions and are current accepting applications for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year as well as the 2024-2025 school year.

  • We believe seeing is believing, call or email us at admissions@themountainschool.org or fill out interest form to schedule a personal tour.

    After an initial tour we like to offer families a chance for their student to come for a shadow half day.

  • Applications to The Mountain School at Winhall consist of two parts. The first part is filled out by the family and the second part by the student’s current school.

    The Mountain School at Winhall ultilizes the AISNE Grade-Based Evaluation Forms for all students. Forms should be filled out based on the grade the child is applying for:

  • After completing the application process, the Head of School will notify families of their child's enrollment status. Once notified of an acceptance, parents/guardians have 15 days to return a signed Enrollment Agreement Form to The Mountain School and pay the required non-refundable deposit (when applicable) to hold placement for the child.

Accreditation 
The Mountain School at Winhall is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and is approved by the Vermont State Board of Education.

It is a member of the Association of Independent Schools of New England (AISNE), the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), and Vermont Independent School Association (VISA).

Enrollment Policy

The Mountain School at Winhall serves students primarily from the towns of Stratton and Winhall. MSW invites and welcomes children from any community to apply for admission. MSW has rolling enrollment. During the admissions process, the school considers academic performance and potential, level of maturity, personal interests, and the family’s support of the mission and vision of The Mountain School at Winhall.

The Mountain School at Winhall tries to accommodate all students interested in attending the school. If a particular grade is at capacity, the family will be notified during the application process and be placed on a waiting list. The waiting list is based on when the application was received.

Any student who receives town tuition and needs special education support will upon acceptance work with the LEA and student’s IEP team to determine how the student’s services shall be provided. In the admission of students and in the awarding of any need-based financial assistance, MSW does not discriminate against any person or group on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), ancestry, national origin, place of birth, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age, political affiliation or marital status in admission or access to, or treatment in, its programs and activities.
